Drum Recommendations

Drum sets can take up a lot of room and be very loud which is why a lot of people practice on only drum pads first. Drum pads are very useful for exercises so they are good to have but we’ve found that students are less inspired to practice only on a pad at home.

If you have the space and area, such as a basement, to put an acoustic drum set and you are ready to commit to a purchase and the loudness of an acoustic set, great! (recommendations below) Of the acoustic sets below there are different sizes. The smaller the sizes of the individual drums, the quieter the sound will be. However, any acoustic drum will be fairly loud.

If you don’t have the space or want to wait to see if the student will stick with lessons, the tabletop drum (yamaha dd-65) we recommend can make it more enjoyable and feel a little more like the experience of playing the drums.

Electric Tabletop Drumset:

This has great sounding drums and replicates all of the parts of the drum you will need including foot pedals for Hihat and Bass drum. It doesn’t replace the feel of a drum set (especially the snare and hi-hat) but it’s really enjoyable to practice and play on to avoid sound and space issues. Yamaha is a well known brand and reliable. We have this in our studio as well as an acoustic set.

Electric Set

It doesn’t replace the feel of a drum set (especially the snare and hi-hat) but it’s really enjoyable to practice and play on.

If you have more space but have sound concerns, an electric set can be a good fit. Again, it doesn’t replace the feel of a drum set (especially the snare and hi-hat) but it’s really enjoyable to practice and play on and sounds good.
