Guitar is an extremely versatile instrument with a wide variety of styles that can be played on it. It has many different techniques such as fingerpicking, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, strumming, slapping rhythms on the body and strings, sliding or hammering on that help create styles and allow it to play many roles. It’s basic sound can be totally transformed through pedals, effects and amps giving it many different voices.

Whether you want to play acoustic or electric, learning the technique to get a good sound from the strings and learning your way around the fretboard is the same. At Park Slope Music School we believe in not only being able to learn chord shapes and tab but also in learning what notes are in the chords and scales as well as being able to read. This gives our students the independence to have more than one option for each chord, improvise, pick up and play new music easily and figure out music.
