Drum Lessons
We believe drum lessons can be more than just doing exercises on a pad with the far off goal of playing music: drum lessons should provide exciting opportunities to build skills while playing music you love. Fundamental skills are important, but they can be built while having fun.
We combine working on the rudiments that build the dexterity and coordination needed to play the drums as well as learning patterns to play songs right away. Students play along with recordings as well as accompaniment from their teacher on another instrument such as piano or guitar.
Drummers at Park Slope Music School learn how to develop independence and dexterity through transcribing parts from their favorites songs and playing them. Learning to understand and read rhythmic patterns and move them throughout the drum set gives our students the ability to pick up new patterns and approach fills with ease.
